Meet author Lara Strong for a reading from her latest young adult novel “Spirit of the Turtle” which will be followed by a book signing on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 1:00pm - 2:30pm at the Ketcham Inn Book Barn.

“Spirit of the Turtle” traces the journey of Solomon Ward, a 14-year old Native American boy from Long Island’s Poospatuck Reservation. Solomon sets out on a whaling boat in the year 1848 to help his family financially and explore the traditions and attain some of the glory of his ancestors. History and culture are the foundation for this wonderful story about taking risks and finding one’s true self.

Lara Strong was born and raised on Long Island and currently lives in Hungary. She has had her creative work published in the online journal Literary Mama, Brain, Child Magazine, and Wilderness House Literary Review. This event is produced and organized by the Ketcham Inn Foundation and the Long Island Indigenous People Museum as a children’s education experience. For more information on Lara visit her website at
